About

Picture
Lavender Hill is Waldorf inspired and nature based program for children ages 2-6. We are open Monday-Friday 8:30am-12:30pm and are offering aftercare until 3:30pm on most days. We are a family owned, woman run business. The owner and teacher, Kai Miller, has over 20 years experience working with children. She received her Waldorf teacher certification from Rudolf Steiner College and a Colorado State Directors license in 2013. In 2016 Kai self published a book titled, The Early Childhood Handbook: A Resource For Teachers Of All Traditions. You can purchase that by clicking here.

She lives in the home with her two beautiful children. They love to go for nature walks by the creek, play in the water and mud, work in the garden, and of course, smell the abundant lavender growing on the property.

Our Approach
At Lavender Hill, we offer a relationship-based, nature-immersed, Waldorf-inspired early childhood program where children are deeply known, emotionally supported, and free to be fully themselves. We believe childhood is not a race—it’s a sacred time for connection, exploration, and growth.

What Makes Lavender Hill Different

Nature Immersion
Children spend their days outdoors in all seasons, building resilience, confidence, and a deep connection to the natural world. This is more than outdoor play—it’s meaningful, hands-on experience with nature through exploration, movement, and discovery.

Waldorf-Inspired Learning
Our rhythm-based days provide a calm, predictable flow that helps children feel secure and grounded. We emphasize imagination, storytelling, creative play, and natural materials—while keeping a flexible, real-life approach that meets each child where they are.

Relationship-Based Care
At the heart of our program is connection. Our teachers build deep, respectful relationships with each child, guiding behavior through empathy, communication, and emotional support. Inspired by principles from Nonviolent Communication, we help children develop strong social and emotional skills that last a lifetime.

Mixed-Age Community (Ages 2–6)
Our environment mirrors a family setting rather than a traditional classroom.
Younger children learn by observing, while older children naturally step into leadership roles—building confidence, empathy, and cooperation across ages.

A Home-Like Environment
Set in a warm, nurturing space, Lavender Hill feels like a second home. This gentle, cozy setting supports smoother transitions, especially for young children, and creates a sense of safety and belonging each day.

Social-Emotional Foundation

We focus on the skills that matter most:
  • Emotional awareness
  • Conflict resolution
  • Communication
  • Confidence and independence

We believe that when children feel safe, seen, and supported, everything else—academics included—follows naturally.

A Slower More Intentional Childhood
We honor the pace of childhood. Rather than rushing into academics, we protect time for play, creativity, and presence—laying a strong foundation for lifelong learning and well-being.

Our Promise
At Lavender Hill, your child will be:
  • Known deeply
  • Treated with respect
  • Supported emotionally
  • Free to explore, imagine, and grow

This is more than childcare—it’s a place where childhood is honored.
Come explore what Lavender Hill has to offer. We would love to have you become a part of our family!

Testimonials

"Miss Kai has been a guiding light for our daughter's younger years. Kai has modeled kindness, compassion, humor, patience and love. She has created a safe, home-like environment for the classroom filled with creative stories & songs. It is a place of where the children feel accepted and loved. Miss Kai has set the scene for our daughter to thrive in these all so important early years of school and life."
~Dena & Todd DeBoom

I have treasured the time my daughter has spent with Miss Kai, she holds the safest, sweetest, thoughtful space for Poet to be exactly who she is. I am forever grateful for Miss Kai's sure footed, magical, whole hearted way of interacting with our children and how she allows them the time and space to deeply engage with the world around them, while gracefully giving them the support they need to meet the world with open arms
~Melanie MacKinnon, owner Frog Belly Farm

This spring my five year old daughter awoke immediately saying, "Oh I cannot wait, Miss Kai tells her new story today, a new story!" Her sentiment and excitement is representative of the relationship I witness between my daughter and Miss Kai and with her experience at school. Miss Kai holds a loving and rhythmical program that honors all of the children. I see their relationships with self, one another and the earth flourishing. Thank you Miss Kai!
~Perky Hubner, ENKI teacher
